Upset Returns to LEC for the Spring Split in a Vitality Uniform

The star ADC is back in the LEC after taking the Winter Split off.

Elias “Upset” Lipp has come to the forefront of EU ADCs in the last few years, especially with his performances in Fnatic. Along with his former support Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov, Upset has been one of the best-performing players in the LEC, leading an inconsistent Fnatic squad to deep playoff runs. Thanks to his time in Fnatic, and also his elite form before that, Upset started to be considered the best ADC in Europe, even though he has not won a LEC title yet.

But after a disappointing Split with Fnatic in the Summer of 2022, and a group stage exit at Worlds 2022, Upset had stepped down from the Fnatic roster and was teamless for the Winter Split. Thankfully for him, he didn’t have to wait too long to find a team with the new LEC rules that came with three split change. According to the new rules, teams cannot target ERL players between Winter and Spring, so they either need to promote someone from their Academy or buy a LEC player out. With Upset still contracted to Fnatic, it wasn’t too long after Winter ended that rumors started on his future.

The first report came out three days ago by Blix.gg’s Alejandro “anonimotum” Gomis & Marián “Eros” Stoica saying will be Vitality's new ADC. Fans didn’t have to wait too long as Team Vitality announced yesterday on Twitter that Upset is signing with the organization, and will be the starting bot laner for the 2023 LEC Spring Split. Upset joining Vitality also means Matúš “Neon” Jakubčík is departing from the organization, after joining them at the start of the year from the now-defunct Misfits Gaming squad.

Team Vitality also released a statement on its website stating, As the most loyal fans know, we have just completed the best regular split in our history, in which Neon was a major contributor to our success. Throughout this time, he has demonstrated an exemplary work ethic and shown us all his worth. Nevertheless, in a logic of balance within the roster and performance, the profile of Upset imposed itself on our team. We believe our path to victory is through these kinds of tough decisions that a club has to make. Team Vitality wishes Neon the best. We work hand in hand with him so that he finds a new team that will make the most of his many talents and that will give him all the consideration he deserves.”
