Sony is set to start a cloud gaming revolution by launching PS5 4k game streaming beta test

Sony had revealed in June its intention to begin testing cloud-based streaming of PS5 games exclusively for PlayStation Plus Premium members. It seems that this trial has now begun in full swing.

PS5 4k Stream Beta Test Initial Reaction

Even though Sony did not reveal any additional details, many gamers who accessed the beta phase are actively exchanging their preliminary assessments. Their feedbacks suggest players can select resolutions ranging from 720p to 2160p (4K), and game progress is seamlessly carried over through automatic cloud save loading.

The exact interpretation of the 4K “max resolution” is ambiguous, whether it pertains to the in-game graphics or the resolution of the images being streamed to your TV. Either interpretation, however, is advantageous considering the principles of cloud-based game streaming.

How Will Sony’s 4k Stream Change Cloud Gaming?

The necessity to heavily compress images to enable rapid internet transmission at a frequency of 60 frames per second (or more) can occasionally result in an unattractive blurring effect overlaying an otherwise perfectly functional gaming experience. 4k streaming can solve that problem.

What Games Are Available For Streaming In 4k?

Beta testers have also revealed that Fortnite, God of War: Ragnarok, Destiny 2, Fall Guys, Destruction All Stars, Demon Slayer, Sackboy A Big Adventure, Resident Evil Village, Demon’s Souls, Returnal, and Death Stranding are among the streamable titles.

Sony’s 4k Game Streaming: A PS5 Exclusive?

The question of whether Sony will expand its streaming service beyond the confines of the PS5 remains unanswered. Taking into account Sony's recent ventures in the PC sector, the likelihood of eventual compatibility with PCs appears to be on the horizon. Sony also did not confirm the availability of these games on Sony Q, the handheld remote PS5 device the company announced in May.
