Fortnite: $250K Console Champions Cup — Recap & Results

Could Fortnite PC players dethrone their console counterparts on their turf? Find out as ESTNN breaks down the Console Champions Cup results.

Fortnite Battle Royale console players finally had their time to shine after losing their own segmented Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) event and accompanying prize pool. The console scene did not shy away from its frustration. Epic Games heard those pleas and promised some platform-specific events, ultimately delivering the first-ever $250K USD Console Champions Cup. Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo competitors marked their calendars for the weekend between the third FNCS Qualifier and Semi-Finals.

All seven worldwide server regions threw their hat into the ring for a share of the quarter-million-dollar prize pool. Unsurprisingly, some fascinating storylines developed, most of which revolving around a PC invasion. Three preliminary rounds set the stage for an exciting finish on Sunday for most regions. Of course, Europe, NA East and NA West dominated the prize pool allocation and narratives.

Europe – Andilex Dominates Three of Four Rounds, Secures First

French PC player and former FNCS Champion — Alexandre “MCES Andilex” Christoph — made little work of his console competition in three of four rounds. Alongside controller player Destru and Laizen, the trio won the first two rounds, took second in round three, and proceeded to dominate the final session. Over six matches, Andilex, Destru and Laizen accumulated 193 points and two Victory Royales. While console players were looking to stand out, only Destru represented the scene in this trio, who collected a relatively effortless $21K USD.

The second and third-place finishers also included relevant PC professionals in Queasy and Virsuh, who helped their respective teams immensely. Both trios cracked the $10K USD mark in earnings, making them multi-platform specialists. Another notable name on the list is NRG benjyfishy, who teamed with Kikoo and itsmm and secured 16th place. It’s safe to assume that more PC players will enlist in the next Console Champions Cup based on these results.

NA East – A Long-Time Console Pro Returns to Form

Console specialist turned PC pro — nut — returned to his old stomping grounds and found himself atop the NA East leaderboard. Fresh off of a win in the third FNCS Season 6 Qualifier, nut combined with fellow former console competitors Chronic Jays and Devour Tkay for the Champions Cup. The three players managed 181 points, including one Victory Royale and 33 eliminations. Nut, Jays and Tkay finished with the second-highest average placement and secured $10.5K USD to pad their console earnings further.

Another triumvirate of console elites known as bylah, Scar and Spud Lite landed in second, falling just one point behind the eventual winners. These three made a valiant run at the Console Champion Cup title, needing only one elimination to achieve that goal. As the final Victory Royale screen rolled, bylah, Scar and Spud Lite stood with one win of their own and 34 eliminations. Their consolation prize materialized in the form of $8.4K USD.

NA West

Triggy, apex cuh and 5G Goon received the NA West Console Champion Cup crown. Of the three major regions, these three put up the most impressive score with 219 points. That performance included a startling 55 eliminations and one Victory Royale. Triggy, cuh and Goon welcomed $4.8K USD in winnings after an outstanding six-match effort.

Favs, another NA West standout, claimed second-place alongside Powur and Ruben. The trio managed 190 points, 33 eliminations and one Victory Royale. While they fell a sizable distance behind first, they took home $3.6K USD after a solid showing overall.

Epic Games indicated that more console-specific tournaments are in the works and that this was just the first of many Console Champion Cups.
